On Thursday March 15, 2001 we had eleven guys present at our first meeting. Since that day we have gone through licensing in September 2001 and full charter status by September 2002 to operate as the Athens, AL Chapter (B-95) of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Incorporated (SPEBSQSA).
In October of 2002 we held our first successful show with guest quartets from Central, AL and Memphis, TN chapters. Our second show featured the world famous ACOUSTIX for their first appearance in Alabama.
We have put together three successful Singing Valentine fund raisers in our short existence, and we have one registered quartet, Fine Mesh.
On Saturday March 22, 2003, Southern Splendor, making only its second contest appearance, finished 7th out of 17 choruses with only 18 guys on stage. We are looking forward to bigger and better happenings! A year earlier, we were overjoyed when we were awarded the District's "Most Improved Chorus" award.
If any of this sounds like fun to you, chorus or quartet participation, or maybe just listening, please stop in.
